Enter the mysterious world of The Encounter, an intimate performance experiment for one person in an interactive environment.

29 January – 2 February 2024

Appointments from 1:00-6:30pm daily.

This is a free event that takes approximately 30 minutes.

The project is created by lead artist Robert Walton and a multidisciplinary team including Airlie Chapman, Goran Duric, Justin Green, Aleks Michalewicz, Elena Vella, Daniel Williams, Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey.

The experience is for one audience member at a time and takes approximately 30 minutes, including completing questionnaires. If you have time, you may be invited to participate in an interview about the experience, which may take an additional 30 minutes.

The experience includes moving in a space with low light wearing headphones and responding to movement in the environment.  It takes place on a flat floor and the venue is wheelchair accessible.

A person moves into the light in a darkened room. The light makes the body a silhouette with a silver lining.

This project is funded by: The University of Melbourne, Contemplative Studies Centre, Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Ethics, Faculty of Fine Arts and Music, Science Gallery Melbourne.
