A few years ago I made this map of my favourite places along the Great Ocean Road for my friends. I’m sharing it now so that it is easy to find. It shows :
- where native animals can be pretty reliably sighted,
- some of the best beaches, waterfalls and forests,
- recommended places to stay overnight,
- places to eat,
- points of interest.
Click on the icons for more info about each place. If you have any suggestions for additions please put them in a comment below.

So great! I grew up in Fairhaven/Aireys Inlet so am very fond of the GOR. A couple of places I love walking/camping/swimming are Cumberland River, just past Lorne. There you can walk up to Jebb’s pool, there’s a natural waterslide into the pool.
In Aireys the best beach is Sunnymeade, down hundreds of steps to a secluded bay and rockpools.
Also you are almost always guaranteed to see Kangaroos on the Anglesea Golf Course, lounging around usually.
Can’t wait to go back down there this summer
